In an effort to achieve a perfect smile, many choose to visit the orthodontist. Braces have long been the way to correct problems with alignment for both teeth and jaw issues. Metal braces have been a staple, and are still a preferred treatment plan for both orthodontists and patients. But with the advancements in dental care for teeth alignments came Invisalign. Its claim to fame and advertised is no one will know you are even correcting your teeth. Each option has it’s set of benefits, so how do you know which is right for you? Is there a better option?
Metal braces work great for adolescents. Anyone who has had to have orthodontic work done will tell you that it isn’t expensive. The last thing, as a parent, you would want to have happened is to have your teenager lose an expensive dental appliance. Braces are generally much cheaper, and a more significant percentage that is covered by insurance over it’s Invisalign counterpart. So for many individuals, the cost-effective solution to correcting their smile is the only option that makes sense financially. Because braces aren’t removable, their treatment plan is usually a shorter length of time. Time for treatment with braces will vary depending on the person, but a good rule of thumb is clear and metal, because they never stop working will require less time spent using them.
After treatment is complete, some patients are given retainers to help keep the progress going and help the teeth stay in position. Taking care of braces can be a challenge, and people who have them may have to wait away from certain foods, especially those that are chewy or gummy.
Invisalign, while it is more expensive, is a favorite among adults for providing the smile they have always wanted. Most adults will overlook the cost in favor of this removable dental appliance. Invisalign makes it easier to care for your teeth, brushing and flossing are the same, and you won’t be restricted by what you can eat, because it is removable. If you are looking for a more comfortable alternative to straightening your teeth, Invisalign works very well. At the end of your treatment, you can still use the aligners as a night guard to prevent teeth grinding.
While each option provides excellent benefits, the decision can be a personal one unless you receive a recommendation from your skilled orthodontists, braces or Invisalign. Most will advise to put aside your budget and choose the best option regardless.
